Contract length: Running until 31/12/2026 (potential to extend)
Shift Pattern: Monday - Friday 3 days onsite - 2 days remote
Balfour Beatty, an International Infrastructure group is currently recruiting for a Senior Quantity Surveyor to join the team, ideally to start immediately. These roles can be based out of Newcastle upon Tyne, Leeds or the main site in Redcar. However, travel to Redcar will be as and when required. 3 days onsite and 2 days remote per week.

As a result, alongside several consortium partners; Balfour Beatty have been selected to construct a first-of-a-kind fully integrated gas-fired power station with carbon capture and storage which is a key driving force behind plans to make Teesside the UK's first decarbonised industrial cluster. Balfour Beatty is seeking a dynamic Quantity Surveyor to contribute to the Net Zero Teesside (NZT) project based at our site in Redcar and Cleveland.
Key Responsibilities:
- Financial: Manages all costs and income within their area of responsibility ● Organisational: Direct reports could include Apprentice QS, Trainee QS, Graduate or Assistant QSs Interfaces ● Internal: Commercial and wider Project Team ● External: Supply Chain, Customers, Stakeholders, Professional and Industry Bodies
- Requests information and systematically checks data ● Prepares Activity Schedules, Resource Schedules & analyses tender documents ● Critically appraises, estimates and negotiates the above with 3rd parties ● Reviews complex contract programmes such as Time-Location ● Assists with the preparation of delay and disruption programmes ● Monitors subcontract activities, measure and respond appropriately ● Prepares Internal reports, commercial progress and financial reconciliation and report to senior project staff
- Understanding of the Customer Contract and undertakes customer and stakeholder management ● Analyses rates & prices, agreement of variations and or compensation events as required ● Prepares, submits and negotiates claims when required ● Manages commercial aspects with Customer and Stakeholders for their area of responsibility
- Undertakes constructability analyses using construction programmes ● Prepares procurement programme and helps develop the strategy
- Supports the recruitment, supervision and development of team members
Key Skills / Experience/ Qualifications
- Experienced Senior QS who has a track record in managing all costs and income within their area of responsibility. They seek to minimise the costs of a project and enhance value for money, while still achieving the required standards and quality. Preferably, they will be a Chartered Member of the RICS, CICES or CIOB or working to achieve in the near future. Experience of managing a small team of commercial staff as well as mentoring others on their journey to becoming professionally qualified is desirable. They will maintain their Continuing Professional Development (CPD).
- BSc or MSc in Quantity Surveying or equivalent o Membership of RICS, ICES or CIOB (or working towards) o CSCS Card (Professional Qualified Person)
