Randstad Sourceright, a leading provider of RPO & MSP Recruitment Services is currently recruiting for a Material Controller to work for the Rail Systems service at Siemens. 

The Role:

This is a high-volume, fast-paced supply chain role managing a complex order book within the Siemens Rolling Stock business. We are seeking a professional who can hit the ground running; you will not just be "monitoring" data, but actively driving the material lifecycle for a portfolio of 350–400 suppliers and a stock value of circa £30m.

This role is distinct from warehouse-based inventory roles. You will be the primary point of contact for suppliers, responsible for ensuring that 50,000+ SKUs are available exactly when needed to prevent production downtime.

 

Responsibilities:

• Strategic Order Book Management: Own the end-to-end "health" of the order book. You will be expected to process 10–50 orders per day and prioritize a massive volume of data to ensure critical parts are delivered on time.
• Active Supplier Engagement: Act as the face of Siemens to external vendors. This involves daily negotiation regarding delivery dates, satisfying demand, resolving invoice queries, and managing Purchase Orders (POs).
• Critical Stock Monitoring: Identify and mitigate "stock-out" risks. You must be able to define and act upon Stock Critical Measures and standard industry KPIs (e.g., OTD, Lead Time Accuracy).
• Technical SAP Operation: Use SAP as a functional tool for placing and managing orders, not just for running reports. You will maintain 100% data integrity for quantities, lead times, and source lists.
• High-Volume Prioritization: Manage a complex workload where the "desk is never clear." You must demonstrate the logic required to prioritize 1,000+ open lines based on production criticality.

 

Key Skills and experience required:

• Proven Order Management Experience: You must have a background in an industry that requires significant order/dispatch management and direct supplier engagement (Rail, Automotive, Aerospace, or Manufacturing preferred).
• Functional SAP Expertise: You must be able to demonstrate how you use SAP to place and manage orders. Candidates who have only used SAP for "viewing" or "reporting" will not be suitable for this level of responsibility.
• Supplier Diplomacy: Significant experience in proactive engagement with suppliers to resolve bottlenecks and ensure quantity accuracy.
• KPI Fluency: Deep understanding of standard procurement KPIs and stock-critical measures. You should be able to explain these in detail during the interview.
• Advanced Digital Literacy: Proficiency in MS Excel (VLookups, Data Manipulation) and exposure to PowerBI is highly desirable.
• Independence: This is not a "trainee" role. We require someone who can manage their own desk with minimal supervision from day one.
